So.much.Christmas

…That's their saying this time of the year - and after spending the weekend at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, I can see why!

Here's a breakdown of our stay plus some tips on how to make the most out of your trip.

-First, know that Christmastime is busy there - like extra busy - so allow for extra time everywhere and prepare for a lot of people. Also, make reservations at their restaurants way in advance. Or, prepare to wait in line at some of the grab and go places.

-Second, download the Gaylord Opryland app. It helps with reservations, room service - and most importantly - navigating around the massive property. I've been there so many times and I still get lost. This app is kind of like Apple Maps, gives you step-by-step directions for getting around the hotel.

SO MUCH CHRISTMAS:

-Now for all the Christmas fun! There is SO much to do, we didn't even get to do it all!

ICE!

The first night we went to the famous ICE exhibit! It's so special - and cold! It's an indoor ice exhibit with more than 2-million pounds of ice.

This year's theme is the Polar Express, and they have a train made of ice you can sit on and take pictures.

It's kept at 9 degrees inside, so bring your warm clothes. They give you a giant blue parka to wear that helps, but bring your own gloves, hats and another coat underneath.

***One other big tip - have your kids or anyone in your party wear a bright-colored hat or beanie. It's hard to see who is who inside, because everyone is wearing a blue coat.

Now I know you are thinking - 9 degrees sounds miserable. But you are only inside for as long as you want to be... you can zip through the exhibit in a few minutes, or stick around. I am perpetually cold and I was just fine for about 20 minutes. Andi got cold and was ready to go then, too.

The big ice slides are super fun, too! My favorite ice sculpture was at the end, the beautiful nativity scene and the giant angel.

**Best time to go: We went Friday around 7:30pm, it was crowded but not crazy. The line in the afternoon was a lot longer.

ALL THE LIGHTS

You can spend hours walking around and seeing the Christmas lights and decor! There's even a light show in the evening you don't want to miss. A good way to see it all is taking the scenic boat ride. You do have to buy tickets and there is usually a line for it, but evenings are less crowded so stop by close to bedtime.

-The next day we went to all the outdoor fun. There is a Christmas/winter village set up with so much to do. You need tickets for each experience.

-There's ice skating - and it's for all abilities. Andi and I had no problem navigating the crowds. You just have to be patient to grab one of the little chairs for kids. Ice skates are available to rent for free.

-Ice tubing is right across the way and you don't want to miss this one! The line looks intimidating but it goes by so fast! Kids can ride too, Andi had a blast!

-Ice bumper cars! There are several bumper cars set up on the ice and you can ride on them and bump around.

-Make your own snowball! Kids will love this one!

-Back inside, there's more Christmas fun: Santa makes an appearance and there is a gingerbread making class! If you run out of time like we did - you can always get your gingerbread decorating kit to go!

-Bonus idea - Soundwaves is open year-round, so if you want to get some water time, bring your suits! The indoor portion is heated and a great way to wear those kids out! But remember, you have to stay at the hotel to go to Soundwaves.

-And don’t forget - if you’re a Davidson County resident you get 40% off select dates.
