How to Help Middle Tennessee Tornado Victims

“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”
The words of Mother Teresa are perfect for what Middle Tennessee is facing right now. Just because we can’t do everything, save everyone and give a lot of money doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do something.
I know how overwhelming it can be to figure out how to help. When we experience tragedy and devastation like this tornado, most of us want to help. But it’s hard to know where to start, what to give, and how much. And with a tragedy of this magnitude, the need is great. 24 people dead, hundreds injured, dozens still missing, and the damage to homes and businesses is hard to comprehend.
Here’s a break down of ALL the charities I could find (right now, I will be updated it) that are raising money and assisting tornado victims. Truth be told, it’s actually harder to find a business that’s NOT donating or helping in some way. And that, is why we are called the Volunteer State.

Want to support businesses raising money? There’s a list of that below.
Want to buy a product and donate at the same time? Below you’ll find local companies, restaurants, artists and boutiques who are all donating profits to tornado victims. I’ve also included businesses offering discounted products and services to those impacted by the tornado.
To start this massive list off, though, I’m going to keep it simple… here are 5 easy ways you can help:
VOLUNTEER: Sign up at Hands On Nashville to help.
DONATE: Send your cash to the Community Foundation of Middle TN, Community Resource Center or the American Red Cross. To donate to the ARC, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
SHARE: Drop off items at the Community Foundation: 218 Omohundro Place, Nashville.
BUY: Get an I Believe in Nashville t-shirt here, or a Nashville Strong t-shirt here.
BLOOD: Blood is always needed, but especially now. The American Red Cross is asking for blood donors. You can do that at a few locations:

-Mother to Mother: This incredible organization is collecting donations for families with children. DM them on their Instagram for drop off info. They have a Walmart wishlist set up HERE.
-Red Cross: 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 for a $10 donation. You can also always donate here.
–Gideon’s Army: Asking for volunteers. Sign up to help cleanup, deliver food or supplies. You can also donate things like blankets, pillows, air mattresses, cleaning supplies or stuffed animals for children. More here.

–Home Street Home: Accepting donations to help Nashville’s homeless community affected by the tornado.
–Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee: Katie Davis is hosting a fundraiser for Nurses for Newborns. They need diapers and wipes. There are a few ways you can help. By purchasing diapers on Amazon here, or drop off physical donations at the Gallatin Shalom Zone 600 Small Street Gallatin. You can also just donate cash through PayPal to Danadavisphotography@yahoo.com. Donations will be distributed at various shelters.
-Second Harvest Food Bank is accepting food donations and monetary donations. Details here.

They’ll be collecting collars, leashes, cat & dog food, blankets, dog beds… they’re also collecting cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products. -Lewisburg Animal shelter fundraising for the Putnam County Animal Shelter. Their building was hit by the tornado and they lost a lot of supplies.

–Eight Days of Hope: Volunteers are invited to help March 6th until March 21st. Volunteers can start to arrive on Friday, March 6th after 3:00 p.m. central.
